lo.1 documentary case study

Documentary Film Making

The five types of documentary film studied in class:

1. Raw footage

2. Expository

3. Observational

4. Interactive

5. Poetic - reflexive and performative

My Big White Self

1) How does His Big White Self position the spectator?
Intrigue about leader & his supporters
Sad because sympathy for victims
Montage of news footage = real
M.b.w.s positions the spectator by encouraging sympathy for the victims using a “New’s footage” montage. This seems real to the spectator.
2) What role does Nick Broomfield perform?
3) What type(s) of documentary is His Big White Self and how do you know?

lo1 skills audit

lo.1 resourses and materials

What is the Glyndebourne?
It is an opera house located in Gylne that does shows on performing arts

What is the Knight Crew?
Is a one of a kind performance targeted towards teens that raise the issues of urban street culture with a twist of Arthurian legend?

Why is the Knight Crew worth making a documentary about?
The knight crew production is the very first created that has any relevance to teens and is aimed at teens to change the perception of what they stereotype it like

What might you include in a documentary about the Glyndebourne or the Knight Crew?
I think I would use cut away footage to show the opera house and the surroundings whilst doing a interview with Sarah cant also try to get an interview with some of the member of the knight crew production to gain information about the type of thing they have to do before the production I would try to film as if it was a tor around the opera house but do cut away footage so people didn’t get board of just watching that I would mix it with an interview

What style might you adopt for your documentary?
I would choose to do expository (voice of god) because I think it makes the viewer focus on what is being shown also I think this is the most effective way to record Glyndebourne and its surroundings due to it being such a large place that it would be hard to just follow the person round where as you can just do cut away and would end up good
